BATTLE CREEK, MI – (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals broke open a tight game in the third quarter on Tuesday night as they outscored Harper Creek 19-7 and went on to defeat the Beavers 66-50.
The win was Coldwater’s third straight and their fourth victory in the last five games. They are 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the Interstate 8. The Cardinals remained one game back of Interstate 8 leader Parma Western after the Panthers defeated Jackson Lumen Christi on Tuesday night.
The Cardinals and Beavers battled to a 29-29 halftime tie before Coldwater took control in the third. Three Cardinals finished in double figures led by Brandon Downs with 17 points. Downs also dished out six assists. Spencer Rodesiler added 16 points while Ethan Crabtree added 12 points and six assists.
Austin Santure and Dylan Targgart both scored nine points. Santure also grabbed nine rebounds and had four blocked shots as the Cardinals had a 43-23 edge on the glass.
Coldwater’s defense also held Harper Creek to 33 percent shooting.
The underclassmen games were split. Coldwater won the JV game 51-49 while Harper Creek took the freshman game 47-23.

UNION CITY, MI – (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles used an 11-1 second quarter to take control of Tuesday night’s Big 8 Conference game at the McNett Fieldhouse as the Orioles defeated Branch County rival Union City 58-31.
The Orioles continue to play stingy defense as they held the Chargers to 25 percent shooting. Quincy also outrebounded Union City 36-14.
Kyler Economou led the Quincy scoring with 23 points and nine rebounds while Will Dunn had a double-double as he scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. .
The Orioles are now 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the Big 8 Conference. Union City is 0-5 in the Big 8 and 2-7 overall.

BRONSON, MI – (WTVB) – Bronson remained winless in Big 8 Conference play as they were beaten at home by Jonesville 58-33. The Vikings are now 2-8 overall and 0-5 in the Big 8.
