ALBION, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Plans have been set for developing a revitalization project for downtown Albion.
The revitalization plan is being touted as the “Big Albion Project” and was originally formulated in 2017.
The Albion Economic Corporation hopes that a collaboration between the city, Albion Reinvestment Corporation and A.C.E. Investment Properties will be able to secure funding into the project.
The funding would come from state grant money, plus local and state tax incentives. If the funding is approved for the project, work could begin as soon as this fall.
The revitalization would include eight different projects downtown, including 18 buildings, over 70 new residential homes, and more.
Of these eight projects, six of them are being overseen by the Albion Economic Corporation. The remaining two are overseen by A.C.E. Investment Properties.
Developers involved in the project say that the extra funding is crucial, as the project will use about $19 million. If the buildings are not revitalized soon, they will need to be demolished due to unsafe characteristics such as lead paint.
All eight of the projects are currently eligible for Brownfield Redevelopment.
Albion City Council is expected to vote on the plan during a meeting on Monday, February 3rd.
