COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater jumped out to a 23-6 first quarter lead and never looked back as they beat Pennfield 63-52 Friday on Hall of Fame Night at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium. Our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Ethan Crabtree, had a team-high 16 points and 7 rebounds, while the Cardinals’ front-line players tallied a pair of double-doubles – Dylan Targgart finished with 15 points and 16 rebounds, and Austin Santure tallied 11 points and 13 boards. Coldwater sits in a 4-way tie for second place in the Interstate 8 with Pennfield, Harper Creek, and Marshall at 3-2, a game behind Parma Western. The Cardinals improve to 4-4 overall.
Homer outscored Quincy 20-4 in the third quarter as the Trojans got past the visiting Orioles 59-52. William Dunn had a team-high 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Kyler Economou also had a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards. Quincy and Homer have identical 6-2 overall records, 3-1 in the Big 8, and are tied with Springport for second place in the league, a game back of Reading.
Springport became part of that three-way tie for second with their 48-36 win over visiting Bronson. The Vikings dropped to 2-7 overall, 0-4 in the Big 8.
Like Bronson, Union City is still looking for their first league win. They were blasted on the road at Reading 73-30 thanks in large part to a 35-4 fourth quarter for the Rangers. Kyle Johnson had a team-high 12 points as the Chargers fell to 0-4 in the Big 8, 2-6 overall.
