COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Four new members of the Coldwater High School Athletic Hall of Fame will be formally inducted Friday night in between games of the girls-boys basketball doubleheader between Coldwater and Pennfield at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
The Class of 2020 Inductees are Tina (Payne) Scheidler from the Class of 1986, Steve Long from the Class of 1995, Tara (Marquart) Wiacek from the Class of 1998 and Honorary Inductee Alice Haylett from the Class of 1940.
Scheidler had a 28 year coaching career at Coldwater which included 15 years as the Varsity Head Softball Coach. She also coached basketball and volleyball. As a student, she earned nine varsity letters and honors in softball, volleyball and basketball.
Wiacek earned varsity letters in basketball, volleyball and softball. She was the team MVP in both basketball and volleyball in 1998.
Long won varsity letters in cross country and track. He earned four all conference awards in cross country and was an all state performer in 1994 and 95. Long has been a cross country coach at Otsego for 20 years where he has had 37 athletes achieve all-state honors and that school’s girls cross country team won state titles in 2015 and 2016.
Haylett played women’s professional baseball during the 1940’s in Milwaukee and Grand Rapids and was a member of the 1947 All-American Girls Professional Baseball League Champions.
