KINDERHOOK TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A woman in her 70s was killed in a fire on Tuesday morning on the northwest side of Lake George in southern Branch County.
The name of the fatal victim has not been released pending notification of relatives.
Lakeland Fire Chief Dave Smith confirmed the fatality Tuesday afternoon but he said he could not release any further information.
The fire in a two story home at 1005 West Shore Drive was reported just before 5:15 a.m..
Lakeland firefighters were initially dispatched. Crews from Bronson and Fremont, Indiana were called in for mutual aide.
Crews had to battle the flames by pumping water directly from the lake.
The fire could be seen from across the lake. it was not called under control until 7:50 a.m..
The cause of the fire was not immediately known. The Michigan State Police Fire Marshal Division is helping with the investigation.
