COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In a battle of early season giirls high school basketball Interstate 8 Conference unbeatens, Parma Western got the best of the Coldwater Lady Cards 58-49 Friday night at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
The Panthers were ranked eighth in Division Two in this week’s Michigan Associated Press girls high school basketball poll.
Western established control of the game early as they jumped out to leads of 14-12 after the first quarter and 29-21 at the half. Coldwater had a 14-13 in the edge in the third quarter but the Panther lead was never threatened in the final eight minutes.
Carlee Crabtree led Coldwater with 24 points and set a milestone in the second quarter when a three point bucket made her the school’s all-time girls basketball leading scorer. She brook the record held by Stacy Duncan of 1,065 points that had been on the books since 1993.
Crabtree now has 1,077 career points.
Coldwater dropped to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the Interstate 8.
Hillary Griffin scored a game-high 28 points for Western as they improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the I-8.
