UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – In boys high school wrestling Wednesday, Bronson scored a pair of wins on Military Appreciation Night in Union City as they defeated the host Chargers 36-30 and Battle Creek Central 59-6. Union City also defeated Battle Creek Central 70-6.
The Bronson-Union City match featured two state champions wrestling at 119 pounds. Brayton Mears of Union City defeated Bronson’s Ben Modert on a 2-1 decision.
Five Bronson wrestlers won two matches on Wednesday night. They were Perry Lake (112), Ben Thomas Grate (135), Craig Tappenden (160), J.C. DePaz (171) and Brady Long (285).
Mears won a pair of matches for the Chargers. Other Union City double winners were Bradley Russell (130), Garrett Iobe (140), Everett Korn (145), Garrett Halder (152)
Jonesville 42, Quincy 36
Quincy battled hard against one of the top teams in the Big 8 but they lost a close match at Jonesville 42-36. The Orioles got pins from Keegan Hoffman (215), Jacob Reif (103), Jacob Gifford (140) and Chandler Locke (171). Davin George won on a void at 285. Gerl Pish won on a 6-5 decision at 152 while Tyler Saterlee (189) won on a 15-13 decision.
