BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals girls softball team has advanced to next Saturday’s M.H.S.A.A. Division Two regional tournament at Otsego.
The Cardinals won the Harper Creek district title on Saturday as they rallied to defeat Vicksburg 5-4 in the semifinals and then boat raced the host school 14-0 in the district title game which featured a five inning no hitter by Mia Rzepka.
Coldwater trailed 4-2 entering the last of the seventh against the Bulldogs but put together a three run rally to pull the game out of the fire. Karlie Knisley’s RBI single capped the comeback.
Winning pitcher Alexis Bills went the distance and struck out nine. Alyssa Bach drove in two runs. Foster and Rzepka both had two hits.
Coldwater carried the momentum from that win into the finals where they totally dominated Harper Creek. Brooklyn Kerry had four of the Cardinals 13 hits. She also drove in three runs. Rzepka struck out nine in her no hitter.
The Cardinals will take a 20-17 record into the Otsego regionals. They will play Wayland in the first regional semifinal at 10:00 a.m.. The winner will play either Edwardsburg or Stevensville-Lakeshore for the regional title and the right to advance to the state quarterfinals.
