BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – After a up-and-down regular season, the Bronson Vikings picked the right time to put things together on Saturday as the won the M.H.S.A.A. Division Three baseball district championship at Climax-Scotts.
The Vikings defeated Branch County rival Union City 13-8 in the semifinals and then shut out Galesburg-Augusta 6-0 in the district championship game.
The Vikings snapped a 6-6 tie against the Chargers with a five run sixth inning.
Nolan Ray led the Vikings with three hits and seven RBI’s. Mason Harris also had three hits. Bronson winning pitcher Blaine Robinson struck out six in six innings of work.
Phoenix Elkins had three hits for the Chargers.
Bronson used another five run sixth inning to break open the district championship game. Ray was the winning pitcher as he struck out six in tossing a five-hit shutout. He helped his own cause by driving in three runs which gave him 10 RBI’s for the day. Dylan Smith collected three of the Vikings 10 hits.
Thanks to their win against Galesburg-Augusta, the Vikings advanced to the Division Three regional semifinals where they will face Schoolcraft on Wednesday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. in Centreville.
Bronson is the only Branch County baseball team to get out of the districts.
Besides Union City, both Coldwater and Quincy lost in the district semifinals.
Coldwater was beaten by Pennfield 5-0 in the Division Two District tournament hosted by the Panthers. Pennfield scored three runs in the first inning and added two more in the fifth as the Cardinals finished 23-12.
The Orioles lost to Hanover-Horton 5-4 in the Division Three District hosted by Homer.
