LAKE JAMES, IN (WTVB) – A murder investigation is being conducted in Steuben County after a woman was found dead in a Lake James residence on Wednesday afternoon.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office along with the Indiana State Police are looking into the death of 82-year-old Wilma Ball.
According to a news release issued on Thursday afternoon by Steuben County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Michael Meeks, deputies along with Steuben County EMS got a report at about 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon of an unresponsive female inside of a residence in the 300 block of Lake James Lane 200 East.
When deputies arrived, they discovered Ball was dead and according to Meeks, “circumstances that appeared unusual and suspicious were observed by responding deputies.”
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office were immediately called in. The Steuben County Coroner’s Office determined the death was a homicide following an autopsy at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center in Fort Wayne.
No further information is being released at this time by the Sheriff’s Office. Meeks stated in the news release that the investigation is still in the preliminary stages and ongoing.
