COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In an effort to raise awareness about abused or neglected children in Branch County, the annual Healing Hill of Hope ceremony was hosted on Thursday by the Coldwater Early Bird Exchange Club at the Naomi Davis Shelter House on North Michigan Avenue.
Eight foot tall American Flags and Child Abuse flags were placed on the hill at the Shelter House. They will be on display through the end of July.
The flags depict 174 substantiated cases of child abuse in Branch County as well as 89 children in foster care and 21 children who have been removed from their homes.
Organizers hope that through awareness and prevention, the number of flags will be reduced dramatically year after year.
Thursday’s ceremony along with the 5K run on Independence Day will support local child abuse prevention programs.
