LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Travelers on the road for the holiday weekend can expect to see less activity on construction zones.
The Michigan Department of Transportation officials are expecting smoother travel along state highways with the easing of construction projects as of Friday, the 2nd.
MDOT announced the suspension and lifting of traffic restrictions wherever possible to ease congestion and increase safety during the spike in travel. Lane restrictions are currently removed for 107 out of 171 projects and are expected to last through 6 a.m., Tuesday, July 6th.
AAA of Michigan estimated 1.5 million Michiganders will hit the road to travel for the holiday weekend, a 22% uptick from the Fourth of July weekend in 2020.
MDOT said while motorists would see suspended operations in most MDOT work zones for the weekend, drivers are advised that equipment and certain traffic configurations may remain in place, like temporary shifts or shoulder closures.
