COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater area man was formally charged with two counts on Saturday in Branch County District Court in connection with a pair of alleged domestic violence incidents last week involving a female acquaintance.
According to Branch County court records, 32-year-old Jeffrey Thomas Dwyer is facing assault by strangulation or suffocation and domestic violence charges.
The charges were filed by prosecutors after a Michigan State Police investigation into the alleged physical incidents last Wednesday and Thursday at a residence in the 1000 block of Marshall Road.
The alleged victim complained she had been grabbed by the neck on both occasions and was put in a headlock in the first incident.
Troopers say they saw scratch marks on the suspect’s arm which the suspect claimed were from his dog.
Bond during the arraignment was set at $10,000 and a not guilty plea was entered on Dwyer’s behalf.
A probable cause hearing was set for July 29 with a preliminary exam set for August 5.
