ARMADA, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — An outbreak of severe weather in Michigan Saturday caused at least four confirmed tornadoes. The twisters were reported in Clayton Township in Genesee County, Armada in Macomb County, White Lake in Oakland County, and in Port Austin in Huron County.
Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel spoke from Armada about the storms.
“The damage here was property, trees, and power lines, that nature. There were no reported injuries and therefore, no reported deaths. We are very fortunate that that was in fact the case.”
DTE Energy says over 120,000 people lost power. Top winds in the tornadoes were estimated to be between 86 and 110-miles-an-hour. Armada declared a state of emergency after the tornado downed trees and damaged homes and businesses.
One person was injured from the tornado that hit White Lake. The tornado that struck Port Austin, a town located at the tip of the Thumb, is the second one this summer. A twister struck the village during another severe weather outbreak that happened in June.
