COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Downtown Development Authority Board recommended to the City Council on Wednesday that North Hanchett between U.S. 12 and Harrison go back to being a two way street.
The D.D.A. gave their approval almost two years ago to have traffic be one way on that portion of North Hanchett to help alleviate the loss of parking during the construction of the Lofts at Milnes Plaza development.
City Manager Keith Baker said it was intended to be temporarily.
Coldwater Economic Development Coordinator Audrey Tappenden said feedback from downtown businesses indicated a majority wanted North Hanchett go back to being a two way street.
Mayor Tom Kramer indicated there would be additional parking spots on Harrison if North Hanchett is returned to a two way street.
The Lamplighter has been closed since late April. D.D.A. Board Chair Brad Rockey said he talked with owner Ted Short and Short intend to reopen “The Lamp”.
A dozen parallel parking stalls were placed on Hanchett near the Lamplighter Lounge since the street became one way.
The one way traffic was also designed to allow drivers to have access to the Upson parking lot.
