BUTLER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Two drivers were injured in a crash at Butler Motor Speedway which took place just after midnight on Sunday morning.
The speedway posted on its web site it was a “horrible racing incident” that take place on track in their street stock division involving five cars.
The crash, which happened during the opening laps of the street stock feature, was reported to Branch County Central Dispatch at 12:29 a.m..
The injured drivers were identified as Josh Allerding and Tim Bennett.
Allerding was taken to a nearby hospital by EMS while Bennett was flown out by a medical helicopter.
The speedway had positive news about the conditions of the drivers on Sunday.
Allerding was home with a concussion and bruising. Bennett is awake after a neck brace removed and a MRI was performed. X-rays were taken of his wrist and shoulder area. It’s possible he suffered a fractured wrist.
Bennett suffered a concussion but he has feeling back in his lower extremities and his left side is still numb.
If all goes well, he maybe released from the hospital on Monday.
The Quincy Fire Department responded along with LifeCare Ambulance and the Michigan State Police.
