MONROE, MI (WTVB) – With many of Michigan’s COVID-19 guidelines getting set to expire, Michigan Gas Utilities is urging customers who have fallen behind on their natural gas bills to contact the company as soon as possible to avoid disconnection.
The utility is transitioning back to pre-pandemic operations. They have worked to help customers manage their bills since the start of the pandemic in March 2020 by offering flexible payment plans and information about energy assistance.
Because of its efforts, Michigan Gas Utilities says less than two percent of their customers are at risk of disconnection which is always a last resort
Customers behind on natural gas bills should visit michigangasutilities.com or use the MGU app to enroll in or find out more about payment arrangements available to them.
The web site also can help customers learn more about energy assistance eligibility through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Michigan Department of Treasury, or Michigan Energy Assistance Program.
Customers who receive a disconnection notice must contact MGU at 800-401-6402 to set up a payment arrangement.
MGU representatives are available 24 hours a day to assist customers.
