BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The first of two storms that went through Branch County Friday evening knocked down numerous trees and power lines in the Quincy and Marble Lake area.
Pictures that were posted on social media by Marble Lake residents showed several trees that were knocked down by the strong winds onto campers and buildings. Several docks were also damaged.
No injuries have been reported.
The first storm went through the area at about 6:00 p.m. and led to power outages that initially affected nearly 4,700 Consumers Energy customers in Branch County.
The outages were mostly along U.S. 12 from the east side of Coldwater to Jonesville. They stretch as far south as East Central Road and as far north as East Girard Road.
Nearly 3,500 Consumer’s Energy customers in Branch County were still without power early Saturday morning. It’s taking crews longer than expected to get power restored. The utility is indicating on its web site’s outage page it maybe late Saturday afternoon before the power was restored. The utility initially said the power would be restored late Friday night.
The Quincy Fire Department posted on its Facebook page that Quincy took a significant hit from the very powerful storm. Several power lines were knocked down in the area including the main power transmission line in the Quincy Park Campground. This line services much of the Quincy area. The fire department added “It is likely that power will be out for an extended period of time.”
They asked residents to stay away from any downed wires and do not cross any emergency barricades or tape that is in place.
