COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – According to WTVB Market Manager Ken Delaney, “No one is more frustrated than us at not being able to uphold our broadcast duties for Branch County.”
The radio station joined almost 80% of Branch County in losing electric power in a massive thunderstorm that ripped through the area Thursday around 6:00 a.m.
The station’s massive but aging diesel generator that powers our building and transmitter in case Consumers Energy goes out failed earlier this year, with replacement parts unavailable. A new generator is being purchased, but hadn’t arrived yet before the storm.
The WTVB staff inside the building at the time of the storm were all safe and are working remotely to update the station’s website and Facebook page until the power returns.
Consumers Energy has now pushed their restoration estimate back to 11:30 PM Monday.
In the meantime, the studio is eerily dark and quiet.
