BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The last of the Consumer’s Energy customers in Branch County who lost their power following a week long series of storms are now back on line.
The last of the power outages were taken care of early Wednesday evening.
At the height of the outages, almost 370,000 Consumer’s Energy customers in Michigan lost their power including nearly 11,000 in Branch County.
Contracted crews from seven states had to be called in to help restore electricity.
Branch, St. Joseph, Hillsdale and Jackson counties experienced significant damage when the third wave of storms rolled through during the early morning hours of August 12.
The storm was one of the 10 most significant in Consumer’s Energy history as more than 6,000 wires were knocked down and over 200 poles were damaged across Michigan.
In many areas, repairs included upgrading poles, conductors and cross arms to withstand higher wind speeds and greater tree damage.
