COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Community School Superintendent Terry Ann Whelan told the Board of Education on Monday night that demolition work has begun at the former Franklin Elementary School.
The Michigan State Housing Development Authority announced last month that over $964,000 in Low-Income Housing Tax Credits were being awarded to MVAH Holdings of Butler County, Ohio and St. Mary Development Corporation for the Coldwater Senior Villas which will be developed at the site.
Plans call for the nine acres of land to be converted into a senior housing development that will feature 48 new single story apartments.
Whelan also said the developers are committed to the project.
The Low Income Housing Tax Credits are federal tax credits administered through M.S.H.D.A. following a competitive application process.
In other business, the board approved three year contract agreements with the Coldwater Education Associated and the Coldwater Education Support Personnel Association. They also approved this year’s salary and benefits for transportation employees. Whelan said it’s the first time action was taken for that group of employees after they decertified from C.E.S.P.A..
