Kevin Kelly Kokinis, a Sheriff’s deputy and long-time Coldwater resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.
A public visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City, Michigan. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Kevin is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sheryld (Cole) Kokinis and his three sons, Nathan Kokinis of Coldwater, Matthew “Adam” Kokinis of Kalamazoo and Trevor “Bill” (Dannielle) Kokinis of Coldwater. He enjoyed spending time with his six grandchildren – Rylee, Sydney, Landon, Khloe, Emerson and Harper. He leaves behind two brothers, Michael Kokinis of Holland and Brad Paupore of Portage; close friends include David Sharpley, Brian Spaulding and Leon Dunn.
Kevin was born July 15, 1960 in Northport, Michigan to Constantine and Carol (Paupore) Kokinis. He spent many summers with his grandmother along the shores of Lake Leelanau. He was a graduate of Coldwater High School. On June 23, 1979, he married his wife of 42 years, Sheryld. You rarely saw them apart from that day forward.
He was a fan of history, music, woodworking, lawn-care, playing the drums and all things Mopar. He loved spending time on either his boat or in his muscle car. Family was everything, as he commented often on how proud he was of his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Reach the Forgotten Jail Ministry (formerly Forgotten Man Ministries) would be appreciated. Their address is 1480 Buchanan Ave. SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49507.
