COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Christmas holiday weekend in Branch County appeared to be a mostly safe one for motorists with no reports from local law enforcement agencies of any serious injury traffic accidents between Thursday and yesterday. Beefed up patrols targeting drunk drivers brought a handful of arrests with 5 people booked at the Branch County jail on OUIL charges including two pulled over in Bronson while Michigan State Police troopers made two stops. And in the City of Coldwater on Saturday, a 40-year old Coldwater man was taken into custody on charges of OUIL-Accident, driving with a suspended license and disorderly conduct.
A deadly accident in Southwest Michigan late Sunday afternoon saw two cars hit the same deer with a driver from Battle Creek killed when the deer smashed through the windshield of his vehicle, causing the 32 year old man to lose control of his auto which rolled over and struck a power pole. It happened in Kalamazoo County’s Comstock Township on G Avenue near 31st street.
