COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school wrestling over the weekend, Bronson won the Coldwater Classic with a 5-0 record on the day. The Vikings’ tournament victory included a 48-20 decision over the host Cardinals. Bronson also defeated Brooklyn Columbia Central, Marshall, Hastings, and Mattawan.
Tommy Littlefield went 5-0 on the day for the Vikings while going 4-1 were Jacob Butters, Ruger Rainey, Isaac Robertson, David Erwin, and Chase Gibson. Bronson is 9-0 on the season.
Winners for Coldwater in the match with the Vikings were Shuaib Aljabaly, Faheem Abdullah, Zach Miller, Sam DeMeester, and Jesse Miller. The Cardinals also defeated Marshall 44-36. Winners for Coldwater against the Redhawks were DeMeester, Abdullah, Zach and Jesse Miller, Ezra Lewis, Carter Hoard, and Hamza Muflihi.
Union City finished fourth out of 12 teams at the Eau Claire Invitational. In the Championship round, Nick Collyer finished first at 103 pounds. Runner-up medals were won by Tristan Banks and Garrett Mead. And in the consolation round, third place finishers for the Chargers were Brad Holzer, Ben Dart, and Brayton Burgett.
Quincy was scheduled to compete at the Sturgis Invitational but had to cancel because of illness.
There’s only one event on tonight’s varsity high school schedule and it’s a Branch County boys basketball matchup that we’ll have on the radio with Coldwater at Bronson. The visiting Cardinals are off to a 3-0 start on the season following their Friday night victory at home over Parma Western while Bronson is winless in 3 starts including their last outing at home Thursday against New Buffalo.
