The Rangers have fired manager Jeff Banister after four seasons. The 54-year-old led Texas to back-to-back AL West titles in his first two seasons, but the club slipped to 78-84 last year and will finish last in the division this season. Banister, who had one year remaining on his contract, compiled a 325-313 overall record with Texas and is 64-88 this season. Bench coach Don Wakamatsu will serve as interim manager for the remainder of the season.
