QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Health Insurance is on the agenda for tonight’s December meeting of the Quincy Village Council. Since the passage of PA 152 in Michigan in 2011, the Village of Quincy has met its health insurance cost requirement by meeting the “hard cap” limit set by the state. The other two methods are employees paying 80% of the premiums and communities opting out. Village Manager Eric Zuzga says he’s working with different insurers to continue to meet the “hard cap” limit, but he’s concerned that it will be close. To avoid non-compliance with the requirement set forth in PA 152, he’s asking the Council to vote to opt out which would take a yes vote from 2/3 of the council.
In other business, the Village has discussed the need for a crossing guard around the school. Police Chief Scott Olney has a person that may be interested in the position. The Village Manager is requesting creation of the crossing guard position at a pay rate of $12 per hour. It would start with the new year on the first day of school in January with the crossing guard working two hours a day. Tonight’s Quincy Village Council session starts at 5:30.
