Charles Dwight Green, 96, of Coldwater passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021 at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.
A private family graveside service was held at Bronson Cemetery. A Celebration of life will be held at the Bethel Gilead Community Church, 876 Block Rd., Bronson on Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 at 4:00 PM, with visitation from 2 – 4:00 PM. In honor of Dwight’s love for MSU, please wear green and white. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson.
Charles was born November 9, 1924 to Homer and Rolene (Campbell) Green in Lansing, MI. Dwight graduated in 1942 from Bronson High school where he played on their winning baseball team. Shortly after graduation, he was called to serve his country, serving from March 1943 to September 1945. He was wounded on his 20th Birthday. He married Patricia DePuy in 1948; together they raised 2 daughters, Nancy and Cindy. He and Pat owned Green Acres campground at Rose Lake until Pat’s untimely death in 1977. He was owner for several years of Green Chevrolet in Bronson. Many will remember him from his years working for Max Larsen Ford and the Best American Car Wash. He proudly served his beloved Bronson Rotary Club (past president), as well as having the distinction of having a 62 year perfect attendance record. He was awarded the “Red Rose’ for his outstanding service to his club and community. He was also presented the “Rotary Hero Award” at the district level. He was made an honorary member of the Bronson Fire Dept for his work in getting the “Jaws of Life” for the department. In 2016 he was inducted into the Bronson High School Hall of Fame. He served on the Branch County Habitat for Humanity Board and was a current member of the Branch County Veterans Affairs Board. He was a member of the Bronson Methodist Church for 70+ years, as well as attending Bethel Gilead Community Church. His devotion to his MSU Spartans was a big part of his life and he held season football tickets for the Spartans for 53 years. In 1998 he married Donna Albright and gained 4 stepchildren and their families.
Surviving is his wife, Donna, daughters Nancy Green (Rob Potter), and Cindy (Duane) Rathbun. His stepchildren, Pat (Colleen) Albright, Curt (Jan) Albright, Kip (Shirley) Albright, and Mindy (Scott) Hantz. His grandchildren Laura Kistel-Rogers and Daren Rathbun, 2 great grandchildren, Taylor (Aimee) Kistel and Kaitlynn Kistel, and a great great grandson, Harrison Dwight Kistel. A sister, Judy (Jack) Nutt, as well as many step grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Pat, an infant daughter, Lisa, his granddaughter, Valerie, sisters Ellen Gilbert and Joyce Ward.
