BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Further details were released yesterday on Wednesday’s announcement that the Air National Guard Base in Battle Creek has a new mission to defend the nation that they hope will also defend the base from military downsizing. Colonel Bryan Teff on Thursday pointed out that the new plans to locate a Cyber Security Operation at the base near Kellogg Field, combined with existing plans for a facility to guide the piloting of unmanned aircraft means the only two growth missions in the Air Force will both be located at Fort Custer.
The cyber operation will be one of four new facilities that will add capacity to the eight that already exist, scattered around the nation.
Teff was able to disclose that of the 71 jobs, all military positions, will be created by the new Operational center, only about 21 will be full time. The other 50 will be filled by National Guardsmen who only work part time.
