ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A man who shot at police during a seven hour standoff at the Travelers Inn west of Fremont, Indiana back in June of 2018 was sent to prison for 115 years on Monday.
38-year-old Joshua A. Kelley was convicted last month on eight charges including two counts of Attempted Murder of Police Officers in Steuben Superior Court.
The Herald-Republican reports Judge William Fee gave a 65 year sentence on one of the attempted murder convictions and a consecutive 35 year sentence on the other count.
Kelley was also convicted on two counts of possession of methamphetamine while in possession of a handgun, manufacturing methamphetamine
pointing a loaded firearm at a police officer, theft of firearm and possession of a handgun without a license.
The first outburst of gunfire at the motel on State Road 120 took place as Fremont Police conducted a welfare check on Kelley. The second took place about six hours later when negotiations broke down.
Kelley, who has a criminal record going back to 2000, surrendered after police fired tear gas into his room at the motel.
