COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s economy may be enjoying a correction in the right direction since 2009. But looking at a decade of survey results, broken down in a pair of time periods, a U.S. Census Bureau report released this week seems to show a different story. The estimated median income in the City of Coldwater has declined 16% from $40,701 down to $34,260. The statistics are lumped in a first section from 2005-2009 and then secondly from 2010-2014.
The drop is even more noticeable for the Villages of Quincy and Union City, both with median incomes down 24%. When it comes to poverty, the city of Bronson, according to the Census Bureau numbers, may be hurting the most with an estimated rate of 36.7% last year, compared to just 15.9% in 2009.
Coldwater’s poverty rate numbers have changed very little from 19% in 2014 with the rate in 2009 at 20.9%.
