DETROIT (WTVB) – Four state champions were crowned yesterday at Ford Field during the first day of the MHSAA Football Finals:
- Division 8: Muskegon Catholic Central 7, Waterford Our Lady 0
- Division 2: Detroit Martin Luther King 40, Lowell 38
- Division 6: Ithaca 27, Clinton 20
- Division 4: Zeeland West 40, Flint Powers Catholic 14
The Finals wrap up today with four more championship games:
- Division 7: Ishpeming vs Pewamo-Westphalia, 10am
- Division 1: Romeo vs. Detroit Cass Tech, 1pm
- Division 5: Grand Rapids West Catholic vs River Rouge, 4:30pm
- Division 3: Orchard Lake St Mary’s vs Chelsea, 7:30pm
Although Chelsea ended Coldwater’s season last Sunday in the semifinals, the accolades continue to roll in for the Cardinals, as quarterback/defensive back Luke Beckhusen and fullback/linebacker Sam DeMeester received Honorable Mention on the Associated Press Division 3 and 4 All-State Football Team.
The girls basketball season gets underway this Tuesday, with Coldwater at Quincy, Bronson at Sturgis, and Union City at Colon. Boys basketball starts the following week.
