DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – The Detroit Red Wings were shut out by the Washington Capitals 1-0 last night at Little Caesars Arena. Jimmy Howard turned aside 25 shots on goal.
The loss eliminates Detroit from the playoffs, marking the second straight year the Wings will not play in the postseason.
The Red Wings skate against Original Six rival Toronto Maple Leafs on the road tomorrow night.
Red Wings defenseman Mike Green will undergo neck surgery and miss the rest of the 2017-18 season. Green was sidelined for seven games in February with the issue, but was back in the lineup earlier this month. He re aggravated the injury during practice this week.
Green will have surgery April 5 and will need at least two months to recover. He has eight goals and 25 assists in 65 games this season for Detroit.
