STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – In what arguably was the most difficult Region to play in this year in Division 2 with six of the top 15 teams in the state, Coldwater played one of its best rounds of the year but was only able to finish in seventh place overall in the 13 team field.
Coldwater shot a round of 380 for the day on the Island Hills Golf Course in the Regional hosted by Sturgis but trailed Byron Center (339), Battle Creek Lakeview (347), and Gull Lake (355) who all qualified for the MHSAA Division 2 State Finals which will be held this year at the Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek on Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16.
Coldwater’s Taylor Musselman will continue her high school career for two more weeks as she qualified for the State Finals for the second year in a row by being one of the top three individuals in the Tournament that is not on a Team going to the State Championship. Musselman finished fourth with a round of 78.
Regional Medalist K.T. Leinwand from Portage Northern shot a 76 and Rylee Smith, from Zeeland West, who shot an 80 rounded out the 3 individuals who qualified for the State Finals.
Coldwater’s effort included Anissa Stevens shooting a round of 98, Ezma Machan had her personal best round shooting a 99, Katie Kimble carded a 105 and Hailey Price rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with a 110. All of the girls are Seniors with the exception of Price who is a Sophomore this year.
