LAKELAND, FL (WTVB) – The Detroit Tigers dropped a 5-2 decision to the Atlanta Braves at Joker Marchant Stadium yesterday. Detroit scored on the long ball as Nicholas Castellanos and Victor Martinez hit back-to-back solo homers in the second inning.
Starting pitcher Ryan Carpenter surrendered one run on one hit while walking one and striking out two in two innings of work.
This afternoon, Matthew Boyd gets the start as the Tigers host the Marlins and tomorrow, Jordan Zimmermann is scheduled to make his second appearance on the mound against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Tigers pitcher Travis Wood has undergone additional testing on his left knee after he was injured during a play against the Atlanta Braves yesterday. Wood was hurt while trying to get an Atlanta player out during a rundown and had to be helped off the field.
Manager Ron Gardenhire said the injury was a sprain and the team will see where it goes from there, but it didn’t look very good. Yesterday was Wood’s first appearance for Detroit after missing a week with an injury on his non-throwing hand.
