COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Field testing on the new Branch County 911 Communications system wrapped up last week with mostly positive reviews and if everything goes according to plan, the new system should be ready to go on line in early 2022.
During a power point presentation at Wednesday’s Branch County 911 Communications Board meeting, County Administrator Bud Norman said the five new towers have been installed and it’s felt as of now, a sixth tower will not be needed.
911 Assistant Director Jean Ratkowski says there were some tile grid signal failures at remote locations but well below the threshold allowed.
Branch County officials were generally pleased with the field testing as well as with the testing back in June at J and K Communications in Columbia City, Indiana on the new equipment which is part of the $9.3 million project.
Board member and Bronson Mayor Larry McConn was impressed with the improved signal strength.
The project is designed to improve signals and communications for police, firefighters and rescue crews. Branch County voters approved a phone surcharge in November of 2020 to help fund the project.
