COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police say they still don’t know if yesterday’s crash on I-69 in Branch County that killed an Indiana truck driver was caused by a medical condition or something else. An autopsy has been ordered as the investigation continues into the accident that occurred just after 4 a.m. when the 66-year old man behind the wheel lost control and his semi-tractor trailer went into the median off the northbound lanes of the highway near Dayburg Road in Girard Township.
When State Troopers arrived, the driver was not responsive and had no vital signs. They pulled him out of the cab and started CPR until a Life Care ambulance crew showed up and took over medical treatment. However, the victim from Lebanon, Indiana could not be revived and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Northbound I-69 was shut down for more than 4 hours while one southbound lane was closed until 11 a.m. Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call the Michigan State Police Marshall Post at (269)558-0500.
