GIRARD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – There was a fatal traffic accident early today in Branch County. It happened on I-69 in Girard Township and took the life of the driver of a semi-tractor trailer, which ended up in the median of the highway near the 17-mile marker. The victim, a 66-year old man from Indiana, was unresponsive in the cab when the Michigan State Police trooper reached the scene not long after the crash was reported around 4 a.m. Efforts to revive the trucker were unsuccessful and an autopsy has been ordered.
No name has been released. I-69 northbound had to be closed at Jonesville Road for more than 4 hours following the accident.
