COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A suspect was arraigned on two felony counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct on Monday in Branch County District Court following an alleged incident at a local motel.
21-year-old Adler Torres-Perez was arrested following a Coldwater Police Department investigation into the alleged incident which according to court documents took place in one of the rooms of the motel last Friday.
The alleged 15-year-old female victim told police that she identified the suspect after she saw his picture on a Facebook message he sent her the next day.
Deputy Chief Public Defender Chris Vreeland said his client has family in Houston and was in town as part of a construction crew.
Torres-Perez does not speak English and a pair of interpreters had to be used during his arraignment.
Both of the charges filed against him carry 15-year prison terms. Not guilty pleas were entered on behalf of the defendant.
Bond was set at $100,000 and a no contact order was issued on behalf of the alleged victim.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for next Tuesday with a preliminary exam on November 2.
