COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater has been recognized for its work to foster entrepreneurial growth and economic development in the annual eCities study conducted by researchers at iLabs, University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Center for Innovation Research. Coldwater was honored as a five star community along with 35 other communities across the state.
Coldwater City Manager Jeff Budd said they’re beyond excited to bring the five star rating back to Coldwater. Last year, the City receive a 4-star rating following a 5 star in 2013. According to Budd, the award can be attributed to the hard work of many individuals as well as collaboration efforts with a community that, in his words, supports our imminent growth.
Lisa Miller, Executive Director of the Branch County Economic Growth Alliance said this past year has been a game changer for the City of Coldwater and the surrounding area. Miller said the Clemens Food Group recruitment was not only a major win for the community, but it will continue to serve as a template of success for future businesses looking to relocate in the area.
Five-star communities spent more than $3.4 million on economic development, had more than $31 million in additions to assets in the past year and had more than $29 billion in combined real and personal property values. The eCities study surveyed 66 communities from 29 counties in Michigan that are home to more than 19 percent of Michigan residents and 10 percent of its college graduates.
The communities were honored last Thursday, October 29, at UM-Dearborn. The annual eCities research project began in 2007.
