KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – A semi-truck driver told Deputies he fell asleep at the wheel and began to drift off onto the shoulder of the road headed westbound on I-94 near the entrance to the Kalamazoo Business Loop mid-morning Friday. It was his misfortune that a disabled semi was on that shoulder, directly in his path. The resulting debris from the collision shut down all lanes of the interstate for two hours. The at-fault driver, 58-year-old Robert Schaffer of Southgate was taken to Bronson Hospital for treatment and is expected to survive. He was cited for careless driving. The other driver was not in his rig at the time.
