COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Former Branch County Prosecutor Val White was formally named the new District Court Magistrate on Tuesday by the Branch County Board of Commissioners.
State law requires that a formal resolution is passed by the Board of Commissioners to approve the appointment of a District Court Magistrate.
District Judge Brent Weigle requested that a resolution be passed by the Board which approved the appointment of White as Magistrate.
White will replace Judge David Coyle, who is retiring. Coyle served five terms as Branch County District Court judge from 1978 until 2008. He then became the court’s Magistrate when Weigle took over as District Court judge on January 1, 2009.
The appointment is effective November 15. White was appointed as Branch County Prosecutor in early 2019 to serve out the balance of Ralph Kimble’s term which expired at the end of 2020.
