COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Democratic Party Wednesday night held its annual fall dinner and reception at the Coldwater Masonic Temple and heard from keynote speaker Gretchen Driskell, 2016 Congressional candidate who will be challenging incumbent Michigan 7th District Republican House lawmaker, Representative Tim Walberg. Driskel is from Saline and currently serves in the State House in Lansing.
She drew a large round of applause after quizzing party supporters last night what is Walberg doing for them, and at the end of the day, can they say he is advocating for them, for their children, or advocating for the environment, and they agreed with her answer, which was a resounding no. Democrats today are calling Walberg’s opposition Wednesday to a successful Bipartisan Budget deal an extreme vote and an example of how out of touch he is.
The two year budget compromise, which is headed to the Senate after passing 266-167, adds about 80 billion dollars in more spending for domestic and defense programs and extends the federal debt limit until March of 2017.
