COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There was a roof fire at the Coldwater Pizza Hut Tuesday morning. The alarm for the restaurant on East Chicago Street came in around 8:25 a.m. when someone saw smoke and flames at the south rear of the building where contractors were also observed on the roof trying to put out the blaze. They escaped without injury. The business was closed at the time.
Coldwater fire fighters quickly had the fire under control. It was contained to ventilation duct work and a portion of the roof and attic area. The fire was blamed on sparks from a saw being used by the contractors and it ignited the combustible ductwork. The fire department cleared the scene at 10 a.m.
According to a news release from the Coldwater Fire Department, the Pizza Hut will not be able to reopen until repairs are made.
