COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Testimony in a Branch County District Court preliminary examination for a Coldwater man who in charged in connection with the April 12 death of a bicyclist north of Kinderhook lasted for over four hours on Thursday.
The hearing for 27-year-old Jacob Daniel Ward will resume on a date to be determined.
Ward is accused of driving an S.U.V. that struck a woman’s bicycle as she riding on Old U.S. 27 near Nye Road. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Ward was released after posting a $100,000 cash/surety bond at the Branch County Jail on July 27. He is being represented by attorney Tom Schaeffer.
Ward has been charged by Branch County Prosecutors with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, Reckless Driving Causing Death, Moving Violation Causing Death, Use of Methamphetamines, and Use of Marijuana.
Michigan State Police investigated the crash.
