CLEVELAND, OH (WTVB) – Tigers closer Shane Greene is Detroit’s lone representative at the All-Star Game in Cleveland tonight.
Greene has 22 saves and a 1.09 ERA in 33 appearances this season.
Houston Astros and former Tigers ace Justin Verlander gets the start for the American League while the National League counters with Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu.
It will be Verlander’s eighth All-Star game, but his first start since 2012 when he lost in Kansas City. Ryu is a first-time All-Star and the first South Korean-native to start the Midsummer Classic. Ryu is 10-and-2 with a major league-best 1.73 ERA in 17 starts with the Dodgers.
Verlander is 10-and-4 with a 2.98 ERA in 19 starts with the Astros. The American League has won six straight in the series and is 18-3-and-1 in the last 22 Midsummer Classics.
