KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Tomorrow will be a rather low-key off-year Election Day in Michigan. There are no national or statewide issues on the ballot, but Kalamazoo, Portage, Parchment, and Galesburg will all be electing city officials.
The only Countywide issue would continue funding the Metro Connect door-to-door transit service…which kept running during the lockdown last year when most everything else shut down. That’s Kalamazoo County Transportation Director Sean McBride who says the five-year levy is a 3/10ths of a mill renewal that they have to maintain to receive state and federal subsidies. The millage request is actually a little lower than it was the last time it passed…
Voters in Pavilion Township and Galesburg both have fire protection millage questions on the ballot and the Galesburg-Augusta School District is trying to pass a $16-million bond issue for school improvements.
In Calhoun County; Battle Creek, Marshall, and Pennfield Schools all have school improvement bond issues on the ballot.
In Van Buren County, there are city races in South Haven, Gobles, Hartford, and Covert. South Haven is asking voters to maintain extra voted funding for drug enforcement and in Berrien County, both Benton Harbor and St. Joseph voters will be picking City Commissioners.
If you plan to vote tomorrow, make sure you know where to go. Some polling places have been changed because school districts didn’t want the public in their buildings during a pandemic. As always, polls will be open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. It should be quick and easy as voter turnout is expected to be quite low.
