VASNCOUVER, BC – The Detroit Red Wings surprised many hockey observers by selecting German defenseman Moritz Seider with the sixth overall pick in the NHL Draft Friday in Vancouver. Seider was named rookie of the year in Germany’s top professional league last season, and finished with 6 points in 29 games for Mannheim. As expected, Jack Hughes was picked by New Jersey with the first overall pick, while Kappo Kakko was taken second by the Rangers. The Draft wraps up today with rounds 2 through 7.
