QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – It’s fall harvest time but yesterday a corn field in Branch County’s Algansee Township wasn’t being worked by farmers but by firefighters from three departments as a stubborn fast moving blaze made for a long afternoon of containing the flames from spreading. The first alarm came in at around 12:15 p.m. from 860 East Central Road. The Quincy Fire Department responded and it wasn’t long before the call went out for mutual aid to have the Lakeland and Coldwater fire departments. They assisted in dousing the fire that at times created a blinding smoke in the area which was also bounded by Broklebank Road.
It took more than 2 hours before the fire was basically declared out. However, shortly before 5 p.m., the blaze rekindled and Quincy firemen returned to the scene and were on the job for another 90 minutes. No injuries were reported.
