COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As they continue work on putting together the county’s 2022 budget, the Branch County Board of Commissioners voted during their work session on Thursday to bring forward to next week’s meeting an additional funding request from the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency. At the same time, they voted to put requests from the Prosecutors Office and M.S.U. Extension on hold for now.
Health Agency Administrative Service Director Theresa Fisher said their funding is based on a per capita amount.
Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien was requested funding for an additional assistant prosecutor to help ease his office’s case workload.
M.S.U. Extension wanted additional funds for a half time 4-H Program Coordinator.
Commissioner Tim Stoll and Jon Houtz were in agreement after the power point presentations from the three departments.
Houtz also expressed concerns about the final costs for the new Branch County Jail. The vote to bring the requests forward was 3-1 with Commissioner Leonard Kolcz casting the lone no vote. He felt Commissioners should approve the 4-H Extension request but he agreed with Stoll and Houtz on the Prosecutor request.
