READING, MI (WTVB) – Home invasions this month near Long Lake in Reading Township have landed two men from Toledo, Ohio behind bars. A break in the investigation came when authorities used OnStar to locate a stolen car in Toledo where the two suspects were located and a traffic stop made. Police say they found evidence in the 2008 Chevy Cobalt that was reported missing from a residence on Long Lake Road. The woman who lives there told Hillsdale County Sheriff’s detectives that when she woke up on October 6, she noticed her purse was gone along with their TV, laptop and tablet, taken from the living room. A short time later, she discovered her car had been stolen.
The suspects were identified as Matthew Kiss and Joshua Smith, both 27-year olds who had been staying at a Kiss family cottage on Cox Drive, also near Long Lake and next to Beach Road, where additional cases of breaking and entering were reported. Michigan State Police at Jonesville obtained information as well about another 5 break-ins allegedly involving Kiss and Smith and a search warrant turned up stolen items at the Cox Drive cottage.
More warrants are being sought with the investigation on-going with Toledo Police and other Ohio law enforcement agencies.
